March Day 1: UP

Whether it's a manual addition or electronic one, the only way is UP using this!

Photo Challenge: MARCH

I'm going to keep going for another month. I haven't looked at the topics yet, but I'm going to try to think outside the square for each and every one. I'm going to try not to let the "everydayness" of the challenge, let me get jaded or lazy with it.

Feb Day 29: SOMETHING YOU'RE LISTENING TO

It was such a beautiful afternoon, after a long day indoors studying, that I lay out on the grass with my dog, and listened to the sounds of the afternoon. Many of them, the sounds of nature. Bliss.

Feb Day 28: MONEY

Can't do a lot without money these days. Even a little social group needs a few dollars behind them to assist those on lower incomes. So, I have a few raffle tickets to sell at the moment .... to make money.

Feb Day 27: SOMETHING YOU ATE

These simple snacks caught my eye in the supermarket at the weekend. Something I haven't had in ages. So today they were my afternoon "brain food" at TAFE.

Feb Day 26: NIGHT

My night time routine often consists of watching TV. Not exciting, but relaxing before bedtime.

Feb Day 25: GREEN

I've looked at this solitary green shutter on this cement wall for months before this challenge came along. For some reason it constantly draws my eye to it. Something about this resonates within me.

Feb Day 24: INSIDE YOUR BATHROOM CABINET

Always amongst the mundane, a little luxury exists in every girls bathroom cabinet.

Feb Day 23: YOUR SHOES

I've viewed a few photo interpretations of this subject today, and I can't match the beautiful shoes I've seen in them. Shoes have never been my thing. I have some cheap ones for gardening, a pair of joggers for exercise and a few for going out. Functional but not pretty. Even my little shoe rack at the back door has been invaded by other objects ... dog leads, tins of paint. Not the highest of priorities in my life, obviously  :-)

Feb Day 22: WHERE YOU WORK

Work often implies paid work, careers, jobs. But work is any activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result. So it could be housework, Mummy duties, gardening, studying, paying bills or paid work of some description. Or all of the above for most people, most days. Today saw the largest amount of effort on my part being put into over 7 hours of study. My head is very tired tonight, but I got a lot done, learned a few things, was very thorough and am left feeling proud and satisfied. Often the result of a good days work!

Feb Day 21: A FAVE PHOTO OF YOU (ME)

Two photos came to mind when I was contemplating this challenge. Both childhood photos, and in the moment, I chose this, from the pure innocence and delight on my face. I was completely in the moment, full of joy and anticipation, and hope for the future. A moment captured, a moment that existed, another moment similar I'd love to have.

Feb Day 20: HANDWRITING

Handwriting. Almost like fingerprints. So personal and unique to each person. Many thoughts came to me as I thought about this topic. How I wished I had lovely flowing smooth handwriting. Remembering the cards I've kept with grandparents handwriting on them. How hard it was to always decipher the doctors' handwriting when I worked for them, but even at their worst, they had their own patterns. Today I've included a photo of some handwriting of my then 6 year old nephew. He had decided to be a spy at school and record what he saw that was interesting each day. I still laugh every time I look at this photo. He is developing his handwriting as he grows, as well as his own unique personality.

Feb Day 19: SOMETHING YOU HATE TO DO

There are lot's of those little daily jobs that I hate. Or parts of jobs. Such as, I don't mind mowing, but I hate emptying the catcher. I don't mind cleaning the bathroom, but hate cleaning the shower. I don't mind weekly rubbish, but I hate that I can't find a decent sized bin to fit in my kitchen. The only bit I didn't plan well. And a job I hate doing, because it accumulates on the little bench and I have to take it outside each day. Grrr!

Feb Day 18: DRINK

I don't like a lot of alcoholic drinks. But I discovered at Christmas time I do like some of the Rum mixers. Seemingly not that much though, discovering these sitting quietly on the base of my pantry cupboard.

Feb Day 17: TIME

I took this photo in this way, to signify how fast time seems to fly by. How fleeting it can be. And hence, how precious it is. We must make the most of the time we have.

Feb Day 16: SOMETHING NEW

A flashback to childhood, except mine was a wooden cotton reel with 4 nails in the top. I thought I'd see how creative I can get with this one as an adult.

Feb Day 15: PHONE

My mobile phone probably has more features than one I'd choose, simply because I won it a couple of years ago, and would be beyond my price range. It's amazing what these little "mini computers" can do these days. Far more than simply dial and receive calls. With them, you're never out of contact. Good sometimes. Great for safety issues. But otherwise a darn nuisance and very intrusive. So, in an old fashioned protest, I switch mine off at night.

Feb Day 14: HEART

Heart health. Tummy satisfied. Makes a pretty picture, literally and result-wise.

Feb Day 13: BLUE

As I glanced around this afternoon, thinking of what I could photograph that's blue, so many items come into view. The sand picture on my desk, my favourite blue writing pen, the screen on my laptop computer, the stormy clouds rolling in .... but today I chose this cute little lava lamp keyring.

Feb Day 12: INSIDE YOUR CLOSET

Just a small glimpse of my closet. A neat selection of mixed goods. A closet reflects life really ... some parts neat, some parts messy, a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

Feb Day 11: MAKES YOU HAPPY

Early morning gardening is one of the things that makes my life a happy one. It increases my fitness without me really noticing. It keeps my garden tidy and thriving, giving me great joy and pride. It gets me into a motivated frame of mind for the day, giving me energy for many things. It also relieves stress, both physical and emotional.

Feb Day 10: SELF PORTRAIT

Oh, to be tall and slender. Oh, to look half as good as my shadow in the late afternoon sun. I feel horrid lately, physically and mentally. I hope I can turn this around soon.

Feb Day 9: FRONT DOOR

My front door. It leads to a lovely relaxing verandah space with great views over the town. It is a space I do not use enough. A place that leads to the wider world; a place I sometimes retreat from gladly within my home.

Feb Day 8: SUN

On a day like today, people often say "we didn't have much sun". We didn't have many moments of blue skies and we had an afternoon of storms, but the sun did shine all day. Just look at the beautiful light variations in a small snapshot of the afternoon sky. This photo must be clicked on and viewed at full size, to appreciate all the beauty it beholds. This is all due to the sun shining.

Feb Day 7: BUTTON

Buttons are everywhere you look these days. Not just on shirts, blouses and trousers, but washing machines, printers, computers, TV's, radio's .... everywhere we look in this day and age of technology. Not to mention those red hot invisible buttons inside us all, that some people are good at pressing, showing some of our insecurities and weaknesses. Buttons!

Feb Day 6: DINNER

Today I fed my mind by attending TAFE for the first time this year. Tonight, I will feed my body, with some healthy tossed herb vegies and fish. What a great combination of mind and body today, to make my spirit feel raised.

Feb Day 5: 10 AM

I almost forgot the 10am challenge photo. I arrived at Mum's for a coffee, quickly taking a snap of her microwave clock. But the flash on the phone obliterated the time. After turning it off, just as I snapped the next photo, the clock ticked over to 10:01am. Pretty close  :-)

Feb Day 4: A STRANGER

It felt a little creepy to try and snap a photo of a stranger today. So I went to the local markets, where I felt it would be easier and look acceptable to have a camera with me. The atmosphere is jolly and friendly. Chatting to this man, he was very proud of his own garden, showing photo's and sharing tips. Keen to share his passion for gardening. I wondered if he enjoyed the market scene. Did he enjoy imparting his knowledge and sharing his garden cuttings? Or was he forced to do this every weekend to supplement a dwindling retirement fund? I hope it's the first option as he was a lovely stranger  :-)

Feb Day 3: HANDS

My first reaction to taking a photograph of my hands was horror. As would be the case for any part of my body. But then I looked down at my hand holding my little dog. A hand full of loving strokes and protective cuddles. A hand, that with patience and gentleness taught this abused and mistreated dog, to love and trust the world. To show her gorgeous personality and overcome the horror other hands had imposed upon her. These hands of mine, whether young, old, thin or pudgy, can impart so much love to those around me, that I love them for this.

Feb Day 2: WORDS

Words ... powerful little critters. The wrong ones told to young minds corrupt and change the path they were destined for. So many words are available to us, even when chosen carefully, can be misunderstood by those hearing them. Yet a voice that failed me as a child and for so many years afterwards, can often be found with words today. Either written or spoken or simply within me. Lovely powerful words. Giving me voice, personal power, freedom and joy.
